Two HNLC cadres killed, arms seized in Meghalaya
Shillong, Jun 23 (UNI) Two unidentified members of the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council were killed in an encounter with police at Nonghyllam village, bordering Bangladesh last night, police today said.
A group of HNLC militants was attempting to infiltrate into India from Bangladesh when a police patrol intercepted them. The HNLC opened indiscriminate firing on police, forcing the latter to retaliate.
An exchange of fire ensued in which two activists were killed.
Others, however, managed to escape.
One carbine, one AK-47 rifle and other incriminating documents were seized from the slain militants, police said.
A Manhunt was on to nab other HNLC ultras.
