Stage set for rolling out Rath-yatra of Lord Jagannath in Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad, June 23 (UNI) The stage is set for rolling out the 129th annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath with all the religious fervour and gaiety from the famous Jagannath Tample in Jamalpur area of the city on June 27.
The three-chariots of Lord Jagannath (Krishna), his brother Balaram and sister Shubhadra will be rolled out in the morning after Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi performed the traditional ritual of 'Pahind'' by sweeping the path with a golden broom, paving the way for the Yatra to begin, says Mahant Rameshwardasji Maharaj, chief priest of the temple, today.
Talking to reporters at the Temple Complex here, Mahant Rameshwardasji said, Mr Modi along with many of his ministerial colleagues, political and social leaders will pull the chariot of Lord Jagannath till the temple entrance to start the yatra for its over 25 kms long route.
The religious ceremonies will begin at 0400 hours with 'Mangla Arti' performed by Mahant Rameshwardasji himself along with many followers and thousands of devotees, followed by installation of idols of Lord Krishna, Lord Balarama and sister Shubhadra in three specially decorated chariots amid chanting of 'Jai Ranchhod...Makhan Chor', the Mahant said.
He said, the city Police Commissioner K R Kaushik has given permission to the Temple authorities to take out the rath-yatra on its traditional route. The Commissioner has also assured of adequate security to all the three chariots and other processionists at temple and on the entire route to prevent any untoward incident.
