Seven of family booked for abetting suicide

Faridkot, Jun 23 (UNI) Police today booked seven persons of a family of Bhikiwind on the charges of abetting a couple to commit suicide.

The middle aged couple, Gurjant Singh and his wife Gurdev Kaur, committed suicide amidst allegations of harassement at the hands of their daughter-in-law in Tehna village on Tuesday.

They left behind a note alleging that they were forced to take this extreme step as they had been implicated in a false case filed by their daughter-in-law Sarabjit Kaur, who had been residing with her parents in Bhikiwind in Tarn Taran district for the last couple of months.

After the registeration of the case, the Tarn Taran police had raided the house of the couple on Monday. However they had managed to elude the police. In her complaint the daughter-in-law had alleged that she was being harassed by her in-laws.

Sarabjit Kaur had married Harnek Singh, the son of the couple about an year back.However relations between the two got strained when Sarabjit aborted her child and then walked out of her in-laws house to stay with her parents.
