Sensex closes up at 10,401 on net-worth buying
Mumbai, June 23 (UNI) The BSE Sensex today rallied hard in the second-half of the day to close up by 125 points at 10,401.30, as compared to the previous close of 10,275.88 points.
The markets recovered from the lower levels as the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex) majors created the buying momentum during the second-half of the trading sessions.
Reliance Industries, ONGC and Wipro were the highlights of today's trading.
Earlier, the Sensex opened 75 points lower at 10,201.31, as weak Asian markets damaged the sentiments.
The BSE smallcap index rose 0.74 per cent while the midcap index advanced 0.11 per cent.
Major gainers on the index were Reliance Industries (RIL), up by 4.10 per cent at Rs 1,013.80, software major Wipro was up by 6.97 per cent to Rs 480.10, Satyam Computers was up 2.75 per cent to Rs 703.70 and Infosys Technologies was up 1.65 per cent to Rs 3,000.
Oil exploration major ONGC surged 5.26 per cent to Rs 1,119.55, while pharma major Ranbaxy Laboratories jumped 3.90 per cent to Rs 385.
