SC stays contempt proceedings against five AAI officials
New Delhi, June 23 (UNI) The Supreme Court today stayed contempt of court proceedings till the final disposal of the appeal filed by five senior officials of the Airports Authority of India(AAI) challenging the contempt proceedings initiated against them by Kolkata high court for not complying with its orders for giving employment to the respondent on compassionate grounds.
A bench comprising Justices A R Lakshmanan and Altamas Kabir also issued notices to the respondents after hearing Solicitor General G E Vahanwati who contended that none of the four officials had violated the court's orders and that the case of the respondent Sushil Kumar Das and his nephew Shyamal Dass was rejected by the competent authority after considering all aspects of the case.
The alleged contemners are the Chairman of AAI, General Manager, Aerodromes, National Airport Authority(NAA),Regional Co-Ordinating Director, Kolkata Region, NAA and the Regional Secretary,NAA.
Father of the respondent no. 1 had died and was an employee of the AAI.
