Refusal to bring dowry spells death for young woman

Gulbarga, June 23 (UNI) A 25-year-old woman was allegedly set afire by her husband and in-laws after she refused to entertain their dowry demand, killing her on the spot in Ramje Nagar here today.

Mahila police station Sub-Inspector Vijayalakshmi told UNI that Aasha had fallen in love with Satish and married him two years ago, much against the wishes of her parents.

Aasha's parents had given her sister Rs 40,000 as dowry last week during her betrothal. Seeing this, Aasha's husband and in-laws forced her to bring Rs 40,000 from her parents. When she rejected the demand, they allegedly doused her with kerosene and set her ablaze, she said.

Police arrested her husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law and produced them before a court.
