R S election schedule announced

Chennai, June 23 (UNI) The Election Commission of India today announced the schedule for by-election to the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu to fill up the vacancy occuring due to the resignation of sitting MP R Sarath Kumar.

Giving details of the schedule, Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta, who was notified by the commission as Election officer, said the notification would be issued on June 26 and the last date for filing nominations would be August three.

The papers would be taken up for scrutiny on August four and the last date for withdrawal of nominations would be August six.

The polling, if necessary would be held on August 13, between 0900 and 1600 hrs. The counting of votes would begin at 1700 hrs on August 13 and the election process would be completed before August 17, he said.

Mr Gupta said the poll, if necessary would be held at the Legislature Committee Room in the main secretariat building.
