Noida couple arrested for road rage in Punjab

Hoshiarpur, June 23 (UNI) A couple from Noida was arrested here for opening fire at a truck driver near octroi post at Bharwain road, police today said.

Truck driver Bidhi Chand had a narrow escape when Swaran Singh Chib and his wife Rani fired two shots at him last evening. They have been booked under sections 307 and 34 of the IPC and 25 of the Arms Act, police said.

The car-borne couple, on way to their home after a pilgrimage of Chintapurni in Himachal Pradesh, were enraged when the truck driver suddenly applied brakes and stopped near them while coming from opposite direction near the octroi post at Bharwain road.

They alighted and fired two shots from a licensed revolver at Bidhi Chand.

However, both beat a hasty retreat when a crowd of angry locals gathered. They were, however, nabbed by police near Prabhat Chowk.
