MoUs signed for four new SEZs in Maharashtra

Mumbai, June 23 (UNI) The Maharashtra government has signed MoUs with Infrastructure Leasing&Financial Services (IL&FS) for setting up SEZs in four cities in the state.

The MoUs were signed between MIDC CEO Rajiv Jalota and IL&FS Deputy MD Arun Saha yesterday.

The four cities are Krushnur in Nanded, Butibori in Nagpur, Nandgaopeth in Amravati and Latur.

The SEZs will have agriculture production, textiles and pharmacy units among others. About 1460 hectare land is proposed to be accquired with an investment of Rs 3,000 crore. It will provide employment to about one lakh persons, both directly and indirectly.

Industries Minister Ashok Chavan said the MoUs were an important step in the government's efforts to bring industries in backward regions of Vidarbha and Marathwada.

State government has submitted 17 proposals of setting up SEZs to the Centre. Out of which 12 proposals have received final approval and three have received approval in principle. While two proposals are under Centre's consideration, Mr Jalota informed.

About 4,488 hectare land will have to be accquired and will bring investment of 10,700 crore. About six lakh persons will get employment, he informed.
