India gives over Rs 6 crore for schools and college in Nepal

Kathmandu, June 23 (UNI) India's Ambassador to Nepal Mr Shiv Shankar Mukherjee laid the foundation stone of the campus and library building for Makwanpur Multiple Campus, Hetauda, to be constructed at a cost of Nepali Rs 2.03 crore with Indian assistance.

The building will greatly contribute to higher education of more than 3,000 students of Makwanpur and adjoining districts by providing improved infrastructure for learning, Indian embassy said in a press statement.

These projects reflect India's commitment to strengthen and increase economic cooperation between New Delhi and Kathmandu, especially in this vital sector of infrastructure, reiterated at the highest level of the political leadership of both countries during the recent visit to India by Nepal Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala.

Meanwhile, two Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) were signed yesterday between the Embassy of India, the Nepalgunj and Bhimeshwor Municipalities and Mahendra Multiple Campus Campus, Nepalgunj, Banke and Shree Kalinchowk Secondary School, Charikot, Dolakha.

The Government of India will be extending another assistance of NRs 2.98 crore for construction of campus building and girls' hostel with boundary wall for Mahendra Multiple Campus and assistance of NRs 1.29 crore will be provided for construction of school building including science laboratory and library for Kalinchowk Secondary School, Charikot, Dolakha.

Monitoring committees have been constituted for the projects consisting of Chairman, Campus/School Management Committees, Engineers, Municipality and District Education Officers to oversee the projects and supervise construction and ensure proper utilization of the grant assistance.

These projects are part of the 139 economic cooperation projects being implemented by the Government of India in the education, health and infrastructure sectors in 61 districts of Nepal with an outlay of NRs 1800 crores, the embassy said.

India's commitment to strengthening and diversifying bilateral relations with Nepal through economic cooperation is steadfast and will be intensified further in the coming months, it added.
