Constable killed, 15 injured in series of blasts in Kashmir

Srinagar, June 23 (UNI) A police constable was killed while 15 people, including seven Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, injured in a series of grenade blasts in the city overnight, official sources said.

They said militants shot at and critically wounded Mohammad Shafi near Naaz crossing this afternoon.

Shafi, who sustained two bullet wounds in the head, was immediately shifted to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Official sources said militants hurled a hand grenade towards security forces at Naaz crossing. However, the grenade missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside causing injuries to three pedestrains, includng two women. The injured were hospitalised.

Militants hurled a hand grenade towards a CRPF patrol party near Shamhan Ghat at Karan Nagar this afternoon, official sources said.

They said ten people, half of them CRPF personnel, were injured in the blast. The injured were hospitalised.

A CRPF spokesman told UNI that militants hurled the grenade on a patrol party from a moving vehicle.

Yesterday, two CRPF personnel were injured in a grenade blast at Reka Chowk Batmaloo.
