Chennai, June 23 (UNI) Congress leader and Union Minister E V K S Elangovan, who demanded a share in power with the DMK, again mooted the idea that Congress and other political parties in Tamil Nadu should go it alone in the forthcoming local body elections.

Talking to newspersons on the sidelines of a workshop on 'New communication strategies' here, Mr Elangovan said political parties in the state could test their strength by contesting alone in the local body elections.

As the local body election results would have no adverse impact either on the DMK government in the state or the Congress led UPA government at the Centre, political parties should ponder this idea seriously, he added.

If the Congress, which fought the just concluded assembly elections in the company of DMK, went alone in the local body elections, it would help the party to grow, besides proving its strength, Mr Elangovan said.

''This is only my personal opinion and I express this view only with a good intention,'' Mr Elangovan clarified.

The fire-brand Congress leader had hit the headlines before the assembly elections when he came out with the idea that the Congress, which was part of DMK led Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) in the state, should seek share in power in the event of DMK led combine capturing power in the state.

With DMK outrightly rejecting the idea, it triggered a raging controversy, which subsided only after Mr Elangovan called on Mr Karunanidhi and offered an apology for his alleged remarks on the DMK leader for rejecting the idea.
