Bijapur farmers ignore Minister's assurance, to continue stir

Bijapur, June 23 (UNI) Farmers belonging to Tamba village in this district, who are on a hunger strike demanding implementation of Basavanna Lift Irrigation Scheme, today vowed to continue their agitation, despite assurances from district incharge Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu.

The Minister met the agitating farmers and told them that the Government had issued orders for conducting a survey for the proposed canal and the work would be expedited once the survey was done.

However, the ryots refused to budge, stating that they would withdraw their stir only after the survey work started. Appeals by local Member of Paliament Basanagouda Patil also fell on deaf ears.
