2 militants among 5 killed,23 injured,infiltration bid foiled in J

Srinagar, June 23 (UNI) A series of grenade blasts and selective killings left three persons, including a police head constable dead and 23 persons, including ten security force personnel, injured in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

Security forces also gunned down two militants and foiled an infiltration bid in the state during the same period, an official spokesman said. One ultra surrendered alongwith one ak rifle at Baramulla last night.

Militants shot at and critically wounded a police head constable Mohammad Shafi near Naaz Crossing this afternoon, official sources said.

Shafi, with two bullet wounds in the head, was immediatley shifted to hospital where he died.

Official sources said militants today hurled a hand grenade towards security forces at Naaz crossing. However, the grenade missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside causing injuries to five pedestrains, includng two women. The injured were hospitalised.

Two CRPF personnel were also injured in a grenade blast at Reka Chowk Batmaloo last night.

Official sources said militants hurled a hand grenade towards a CRPF patrol party near Shamhan Ghat at Karan Nagar this afternoon.

They said ten person, half of them CRPF personnel were injured.

The injured have been hospitalised.

A CRPF spokesman told UNI that militants hurled the grenade on a patrol party from a morning vehicle.

Two militants were among three people killed while ultras shot at and wounded a Jammu and Kashmir police head constable in the valley today, official sources said.
