Soca Warriors unlucky to lose against England: Sarwan
Bassterre, St Kitts, June 22 (UNI) Enjoying his share of football World Cup action amid the ongoing Test series against India, West Indies vice-captain Ramnaresh Sarwan said he was impressed with Trinidad and Tobago's maiden sojourn in the big league and felt the Soca Warriors were unlucky to lose to England in their first round clash.
''Away from cricket we are enjoying the football World Cup. I have watched Trinidad and Tobago's progress with interest and I thought they were unlucky to lose 2-0 against England after having a lot of possession in the match and giving England's stars a few problems,'' Sarwan wrote in his column for a website.
But now that the Caribbean team's campaign in Germany is over after losing their last league encounter to Paraguay, Sarwan said he was back to supporting his favourite Brazil who, according to him, were the most likely to win the cup for a record sixth time.
''My team, though, is Brazil. I love the entertaining way they play,'' he said.
Sarwan felt underfire striker Ronaldo could not be dismissed yet as being an experienced player he was still an asset for the team and knew how to get out of the recent slump in form.
''I'm a big fan of Ronaldo. He hasn't had the best of times till now and he's taking criticism from all quarters but he's the man who has been there and done it before and I'm backing him to return to his best form,'' Sarwan said.
