Leadership issue not discussed in Tewari-Sonia meeting: Cong
New Delhi, June 22 (UNI) The Congress today indicated that there was no plan for any immediate change of leadership in Uttaranchal.
Speaking to mediapersons after Chief Minister Narain Dutt Tewari's meeting with party president Sonia Gandhi, AICC Treasurer and incharge of the state Motilal Vora said the matter did not come up for discussion.
Mr Tewari had recently expressed his desire to step down citing health reasons.
''Neither Mr Tewari put forward his proposal in this meeting nor was the issue brought up by the party,'' Mr Vohra told reporters.
He, however, parried a question as to whether the next elections will be fought under Mr Tewari's leadership.
Besides, Mr Tewari, state Congress chief Harish Rawat and Ms Gandhi' s political adviser Ahmed Patel had also participated in the meeting.
Mr Vora said Mr Tewari discussed the political situation of the state, especially in the context of the coming Assembly elections.
He refused to comment on suggestions that Mr Rawat could be the next chief minister and denied that there was any state of uncertainty after Mr Tewari's proposal to step down.
''There was complete unity in the state unit of the party and it will face the elections with strength and confidence,'' Mr Vora said.
This was reiterated by both by Mr Tewari and Mr Rawat in the meeting.
The two leaders also apprised Ms Gandhi about developmental work in the state, he said.
