Kochi, Jun 22 (UNI) Slamming the Kerala Professional Colleges Bill 2006, tabled in the state assembly today, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala alleged that it would only help the private education lobbies in neighbouring states.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Chennithala claimed that the bill was full of loopholes and added that the LDF Government, even though it was aware of these lacunae, had done nothing to remove them.

Mr Chennithala said the bill was not clear on the issues of fee structure, admission of merit students into private colleges and minority status of private colleges.

As almost 90 per cent of the private professional colleges were run by minority institutions, the government would have no say in their fee structure. This would work to the disadvantage of the poor students, he added.

The KPCC chief also demanded that the LDF Government clarify its stand on the Narendran Commission Report on job reservation for backward castes.

Rejecting the legislature committee inquiry ordered by Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan into corruption allegations against Public Works Minister P J Joseph, Mr Chennithala said this was not enough and the Chief Minister should clarify whether he was willing to order a vigilance probe against the minister.
