Hot weather conditions persist in region
Chandigarh, June 22 (UNI) Hot weather conditions persisted in north-west India as the mercury further rose hovering above normal at most places in the region today.
People reeled under the intense heat at Amritsar with the maximum temperature soaring to 41.0 degrees, one degree above normal, turning it the hottest place in Punjab. Ludhiana recorded 40.0 degrees and Patiala 39.6 degrees celsius.
Schorching heat prevailed in Haryana. The mercury further rose at Karnal recording 39.5 degrees but dipped at Ambala registering 39.7 degrees celsius.
The temperatures also rose in Himachal Pradesh with Bhuntar in Kullu district recording 36.0 degrees, Sunderdnagar in Mandi district 36.0 degrees and Kalpa in Kinnaur district 23.7 degrees.
State capital Shimla recorded the temperature at 25.1 degrees, one degree above normal.
Chandigarh and its adjoining areas in Punjab and Haryana also reeled under hot weather conditions with the temperature remaining static at 40.0 degrees, one degree above normal.
Western disturbance lay over Himachal Pradesh and its neighbourhood as an upper air system, according to the weather office here. The induced upper air cyclonic circulation over west Uttar Pradesh and adjoining south Haryana and east Rajasthan now lay over north-west Madhya Pradesh and its neighbourhood and extended upto 4.5 km above sea level.
The weather office has predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at few places in Himachal Pradesh and isolated places in Haryana and Punjab during the next 24 hours.
