BSP to hold conference in B'lore on June 25
Bangalore, June 22: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will hold a conference of leaders from all Southern States and Maharashtra in the city on June 25 to expose the UPA Government's ''failure'' to contain price rise, confusion over office of profit and reservation policy.
Briefing newspersons here about the conference, BSP General Secretary Azad Gandhi said the UPA Government had effected hike in petrol and diesel prices six times in its two-year tenure.
Consequently, price of transport and basic commodities had gone beyond the reach of poor and middle classes, who were unable to get a corresponding rise in their wages.
He said the office-of-profit issue, which had led to the resignation of Congress President Sonia Gandhi from her MP post as well as Chairperson of the National Advisory Council, was raked up by the Congress. It had pushed the UPA Government to a corner as the Bill drafted mainly to save the members of the ruling parties was returned by the President.
Mr Gandhi accused the UPA Government of offering 27 per cent reservation to OBCs in higher educational institutions only with an eye on the vote bank and not due to any commitment to improve the status of the marginalised. The move had only led to the instability of the Government.
The BSP demanded that the SC/STs and OBCs should be provided reservaton in the private sector, judiciary and Rajya Sabha. ''We want reservation to be provided to the downtrodden even in the election of Chief Ministers in the country,'' he added.
