Power availability in Haryana reduced
Chandigarh, June 21 (UNI) The availability of electricity to Haryana has been reduced due to less power generation in the hydel projects located in hilly states of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttaranchal, a spokesman of the Haryana Power Utilities said here today.
The major reason for this is scarcity of inflow of water in hydro projects being snow-fed. A abrupt fall in temperature had resulted into less melting of snow in the mountains and higher regions of these three states.
The spokesman said that there had been a daily shortfall in Haryana's share of 30 lakh units from the Bakhra - Beas Management Board, 23 lakh units from SJVN (NHPC), 26 lakh units from Nathpa Jakhri Project and eight lakh units from Mullana Project.
He stated there had been a minor technical fault in the eighth unit of Panipat Thermal Power Station. This also resulted in the reduction of availability of power by 55 lakh units daily. He said that the unit would restart generation by today evening.
He disclosed that the demand of electricity had shoot up in the state due to onset of paddy season. In order to ensure regular power supply to tubewells for seven to eight hours daily, the Utilities had temporarily imposed six to eight hours regulations on industries and for five to six hours in urban sector.
He further stated the frequency of northern grid varied around 49 Hz. Most of the states in the northern region had been forced to regulate the power supply.
