Kerala to enact legislation on inter-caste marriage reservation
Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 21 (UNI) The Kerala Cabinet today decided to enact a legislation in the State Assembly to extend reservation benefits to the siblings of inter-caste marriages if any of the parent belongs to the eligible community.
Briefing newspersons, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said as per the present rules, only the caste of the father was considered for giving reservation benefits.
Earlier, reservation benefits were available if father or mother belonged to the eligible community. The present policy had deprived the benefits of reseveration to a large number of children born out of inter-caste marriages.
Now, the intention of the government was to restore the earlier situation by enacting the new legislation. A bill for the purpose would be introduced in the next session of the State Assembly.
He said the Cabinet had also directed department heads and district collectors to report to the Public Service Commission regarding the vacancies in the government department and public sector units.
