Inquiry into public school not admitting poor topper girl
New Delhi, June 21 (UNI) Delhi Government is inquiring into the case of a girl who secured 97.6 per cent marks in class X exams been denied admission in a public school in the national capital allegedly because of her poor financial background.
Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said he had asked the education department to ascertain the details from the school and the girl's parents by tomorrow.
16-year-old Garima Godara, daughter of a police constable, had scored 97.6 per cent in her class X exams but was allegedly denied admission by a public school in Dwarka in South West Delhi.
Action could be taken against the school if it failed to provide a 'reasonable' explanation to why it denied admission to the girl, Mr Lovely added.
Meanwhile, the minister had also requested another public school to admit the girl, which had agreed to grant her admission.
The government was also ready to give scholarship to the girl for the next two years to pay for her school education.
