Chennai, June 21 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government proposes to have a common Act for all universities in the state, Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi said today.

''At present each university has its own Act and this results in administrative confusion,'' he told reporters after a meeting with the Vice-chancellors of universities here.

The government was also planning to set up a university of technologies in the state. An announcement to this effect would be made in the budget to be presented in the Assembly on July 22, he added.

Mr Ponmudi said the new admission policy for the engineering courses has almost been finalised and it would be announced by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi soon.

After getting the concurrence of the college administrators, he would hold talks with the Chief Minister in this regard, he added.

The minister said there would not be any confusion among students in respect of admission to professional courses this year.

Stating that the meeting discussed about the prevailing situation in the 13 universities (excluding medical and agriculture) in the state, Mr Ponmudi said the government was planning to have a Common Entrance Test (CET) for MBA and B Ed courses.

The government would also hold talks with the Chambers of Commerce for providing practical training to engineering students on the lines of practical classes for medical students.
