Fujitsu to expand operations in India

New Delhi, June 21 (UNI) Fujitsu, Japan's leading Personal Computer maker, will expand its distribution channel in India and set up a chain of 12 retail stores in the country by September this year.

''We will pump in more resources and expand our distribution channel in India. For this we are looking forward to have around 150 distribution partners by March 2007,'' Fujitsu Asia Pacific Pte Ltd Director (Product Marketing and Engineering) Raymond Foo told reporters here today.

The company will open 10-12 retail stores across the country by September this year, Fujitsu India Ltd Head- PC Division Ramanjeet Singh said at the launch of its new line of 'Lifebook' notebooks and 'Deskpower' entertainment PCs. Recently, Fujitsu had tied-up with Salora International Ltd for the distribution of its products on June 1.

Fujitsu started operations in India from August 2004.

He added that the company-owned new retail store will open in Lucknow tomorrow, followed by Bangalore by the end of this month.

''We are spending about Rs six lakh each on the concept stores, depending on the city.'' Fujitsu wants to acquire about three per cent share of the Indian notebook market, having sold 600-700 units in the first quarter of this fiscal.

The company entered the desktop market from Q1 of this fiscal and aims to achieve one per cent share by the end of financial year 2007. It sold 1800 units of notebooks in 2005-06.
