Coins of ancient times recovered in North Kashmir

Baramulla, Jun 21 (UNI) A villager today recovered coins of ancient times when he was digging his land in North Kashmir, official sources said.

They said a villager Gula Parray was digging to extract mud for making bricks at village Wahlotra in Rafiabad belt, about 15 km from here, when he found a big pot, which was full of coins of king Zainul Abideen, who ruled Kashmir for 50 years from 1420 to 1470 AD.

The name of king, popularly known as Budshah, was clearly visible on the coins.

Sources said it is believed that the area called Bataporan near Panzalla was being used for storing essential commodites, including rice, atta and pulses for winter months during the time of King Budshah (great king).

A few years ago, big pots were found in the same area. Each pot had a capacity to store about 50 quintals of rice. However, the pots were destroyed by the locals, sources said.
