Parul Goswami beaten, Gumlya advances to 2nd round in ITF Women's

New Delhi, June 19 (UNI) Eighth seeded Parul Goswami crashed out of the ITF Women's event as her Chinese opponent Jing-Jing Lu created a major upset in the first round of the 10,000 dollar event at the DLTA Complex here today.

A lacklustre Parul could not bag a single game in the first set and in the end, went down 0-6, 4-6.

It turned out to be a bad day in the office for most of her compatriots and Sonal Phadke too proved no match for sixth seed Sandy Gumulya of Indonesia who beat the local favourite 6-3, 6-3.

Fourth seeded Chinese Jing Ren was in ominous form as she decimated Esha Sanghvi 6-0, 6-1.

Qualifier Vishakha Sheoran moved to the second round when her opponent Shweta Kakhandki retired with the score levelled at 3-3.

Geeta Manohar downed compatriot Sagarika Phadke 6-3,7-5 in another first round match, while Sanjana Kapur overcame Sampada Kanede 6-2, 4-6,7-5.

Indonesian Tananta edged out Po-Kuen Lam of Hong Kong 7-5,7-5, while compatriot Vivien Silfany-Tony overcame a gritty Wei-Ping Lee of Singapore 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
