'Japan to respond harshly to N.Korea missile'
Tokyo, June 19: Japan would need to respond ''harshly'' in consultation with the United States if North Korea launched a long-range ballistic missile, Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi said today, adding that Tokyo was taking various steps to persuade Pyongyang not to do so.
US officials said North Korea appeared to have completed fuelling for a test of a long-range ballistic missile that could possibly reach as far as Alaska.
Pyongyang shocked the world in 1998 when it fired a missile, part of which flew over Japan and landed in the Pacific Ocean.
