Centre releases over 2000 crore to NE under dev schemes

Aizawl, Jun 19 (UNI) In a bid to boost the development process in North-East (NE) the Centre has sanctioned 224 schemes worth over Rs 2,000 crore for the region, during the last four years.

The schemes, include improvement of infrastructure in Mizoram University, renovation of Kamakhya Temple and water supply scheme to Arunachal Pradesh.

The highest amount of Rs 736.02 crore had been so far given to Asom for the construction of a 100-bed hosptial, development of Asom Medical College construction of various bridges and rural roads during this period, official sources here today informed.

About 70 crore was the single highest amount that a project in Asom got from the Ministry of Development of North-Eastern Region (DONER) for the construction of a multi- storey secretariate complex in Guwahati.

For renovation of the famous Kamakhya Temple in Asom, the state received Rs 4.89 crore.

About 175 crore was invested in the Arunachal Pradesh region and out of the total, Rs 29 crore was spent for installation of a 132 KV transmission line from Along to Pasighat in the region.

Anti-erosion work on Kley river in Lower Subansiri district (Rs 7.31 crore) and the Naharlagun (both Itanagar) water supply scheme (Rs 11.73 crore) are the two other major projects in the state which are carried out with the Centre's assistance, the official sources added.
