Haryana to spend Rs 2,924 crore to boost power generation

Rohtak, June 18 (UNI) The Haryana government plans to spend Rs 2,924 crore for strengthening power generation, transmission and distribution system in the state during the current financial year.

This was stated by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda while addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone of a 132 KV Sub-Station in Sector 3 here today.

He said this 132 KV Sub-Station would be constructed at a cost of about Rs 10 crore and completed by April, 2007.

During the past 14 months of the his government, he said, 25 new sub-stations at a cost of Rs 141 crore were set up and the capacity of 93 sub-stations was enhanced besides laying 464 km long-lines of power to ensure adequate power supply to the people in the state.

He said the government purchased 2,294 lakh units of electricity on short term basis during the last two months to ensure sufficient power to the consumers.

Mr Hooda said 7,676 MW of generation capacity would be increased in Haryana in the 11th Five Year Plan of which 4,000 MW would be added during the next three years.

The state would acquire 2,000 MW through competitive bids, he added.

He said two thermal plants of 1000 MW each would be set up at Matanhail and Hisar.

The state had also signed agreements to purchase 3,076 MW of power out of which 1,006 MW would be supplied by the Central Sector Power Utilities and 2070 MW would be procured from the independent power producers.
