Congress MP demands expulsion of Lingappa
Bangalore, June 18 (UNI) Congress MP Tejaswini Ramesh today demanded that party president Sonia Gandhi expel former Karnataka Legislator C M Lingappa, who along with his son and supporters had allegedly abused and threatened her.
In a letter to Ms Gandhi, a copy of which was released to the press here, Ms Ramesh, who had lodged a police complaint yesterday, said the party high command should inquire into the incident and expel Mr Lingappa from the party.
However, Mr Lingappa and his supporters should be immediately suspended, pending inquiry, she added.
She said that she had to go to the media as the incident had taken place in full public view.
She had sought police protection after Mr Lingappa allegedly threatened an acid attack on her.
Ms Ramesh also handed over a copy of the letter to party general secretary A K Antony, who arrived in the city today on a three-day visit to assess the political situation and strengthen the party at the grassroots level.
Mr Antony, who is also in charge of the party affairs in the state, heard Ms Ramesh and assured her that he would convey her feelings to Ms Gandhi.
