Sridhar, Chetan, Saina gain places in world badminton rankings
New Delhi, Jun 16 (UNI) A fine showing in the Singapore Open last week has helped national champion Anup Sridhar closed ranks with top Indian shuttler Chetan Anand in the latest badminton world rankings.
Sridhar, who lost to world number six Kenneth Jonassen of Denmark in the quarter-finals in Singapore, has gained eight places to finish at 35th, still 11 places adrift form Chetan who also moved up three places from previous 27th.
Young Saina Nehwal also continued to climb the chart among women jumping seven places to grab the 45th spot, according to information received here today.
Anand has had a poor run in the last three weeks which saw top Indian shuttlers participating in four tournaments -- Philippines Open, Indonesian Open, Singapore Open and Malysian Open.
Another top Indian, Arvind Bhat, who lost in the pre-quarter finals of the ongoing Malaysian Open in Kuching by upsetting Jonassen, has slipped one rung down to 62nd.
P Kashyap (103), Anand Pawar (123), Thomas Kurian (213), Rohan Castelino (215) and Abhinn Shyam Gupta (257) all moved up in their rankings.
Meanwhile among women, Trupti Murgunde (93) and Aparna Popat (94) slipped down while Jwala Gutta (150), Aditi Mutatkar (165), Sayali Gokhale (229) gained in rankings.
