Court adjourns Abu Salem's hearing till June 30
Mumbai, June 16: The Special MCOCA court today adjourned the hearing on a plea filed by extradited gangster Abu Salem alleging that Mumbai Police violated the extradition treaty till June 30.
Special Public Prosecutor Jimmy Madan said here that as soon as the matter was called up for hearing, Advocate Ashok Sarogi's junior sought time for argument.
MCOCA (Maharashtra Control for Organised Crime Act) Judge Abhay Thipsay granted time and then adjourned the hearing till June 30, he added.
Salem's advocate Ashok Sarogi had moved an application stating that Mumbai police has violated agreement signed between Portugal and India at the time of extradition.
He stated in the application that Indian Government had brought his client here for conducting trial in eight cases only.
Now Mumbai police is interrogating him in some other cases which were not mentioned in the agreement signed between Portugal and Indian Government, he observed.
Meanwhile, Mr Sarogi had last week visited Portugal to file an application in the court there in this regards.
The major cases against Salem includes serial bomb blast in 1993 in which hundreds of people were killed and several hundreds injured.
He was also booked in murder cases of Pradeep Jain and Ajit Diwani, private secretary of Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala.
