Attempt is being made to kill me: Geelani
Srinagar, Jun 16: Alleging that an attempt was being made to kill him, the chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani said human right violations in Jammu and Kashmir have increased after the second Round Table conference chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here on April 24-25.
Addressing the Friday congregation at Tral in south Kashmir district of Pulwama this afternoon, Mr Geelani claimed a deep rooted conspiracy was going on to eliminate him from the political scene.
My political activities are being curbed and I am being arrested almost daily, he said, adding he was being forced to travel long distance by police without taking into consideration his ill health.
He alleged that there has been alarming increase in human rights violations by the security forces after the Prime Minister said that there would be zero tolerance for such abuses.
''The zero tolerance was actually to kill those supporting the freedom movement,'' he said.
Mr Geelani criticised Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for justifying recent firing by security forces on demonstrators at Trehgam in which two person were killed.
''Justifying the firing on demonstrators was a signal for security forces to supress the movement by using all force, he claimed.
Mr Geelani said firing on a procession who were protesting against the desecration of a mosque by security forces was ''state terrorism.'' Another senior HC leader Ghulam Nabi Sumbji said lasting peace would elude south Asia till the Kashmir issue is resolved.
Meanwhile, Police detained HC leader Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar at Chowgul when he was on way to Hadwara.
