Hyderabad, Jun 16 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Income Tax Chief Commissioner D V Dharmik today said the department has fixed a target of Rs 8,479 crore for 2006-07 against Rs 6,700 crore collected from tax payers during 2005-06.

Addressing the press here, Mr Dharmik said the department had collected Rs 6,700 crore in 2005-06 representing 38 per cent growth over 2004-05.

The highest tax payer last year was National Mineral Development Corporation.

The department had identified construction companies to be major tax evaders in the state. Film stars were also under the scanner, Mr Dharmik said.

He said notices were served to 5000 people who sumbitted tax documents without PAN numbers.

Elaborating on the new '2F' Income Tax return form, he said under this, an assessee need to annex documents as required for Form '2 E.' While the last date for submission of either '2 E' or '2 F' Form was July 31, the tax payers should submit only '2 F' form from August one, 2006.

Stating the assessee should fill Schedule 5 in '2 F' providing all information on annual expenditure, Mr Dharmik said the department would cross check the information through certain agencies without intrusive investigation.

He said a help desk was being set up in the city for the benefit of small tax payers. Another four desks would be established in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad at the earliest.
