Dehra Dun, June 15 (UNI) Taking a cue from countries like Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, the Uttaranchal government is planning to turn the state into a tourist as well as education hub, state Information Minister Indira Hridayesh said here today.

Addressing mediapersons after her return from the above three South Asian countries, she said her visit was mainly focussed on urban development, traffic management and infrastructure development in these countries.

She said to increase per capita income, the best way for tourism promotion in Uttaranchal was to turn it into a tourist and education hub like these three developing countries had done.

Ms Hridayesh said the government would also promote health tourism like in Kerala. Taking help from NGOs, the government would also put an effort to develop green belt in the state and transform major cities into model towns. ''The experiment will begin from the state capital Dehra Dun,'' she said.
