UP to dole out unemployment allowance to youth from tomorrow

Lucknow, June 15 (UNI) Over one lakh unemployed youth have been found eligible to receive unemployment allowance of Rs 500 per month in Uttar Pradesh.

The scheme, to be formally launched tomorrow by the chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav in the state capital, has attracted huge response from the educated youth across the state.

Mr Yadav would personally distribute the first lot of cheques to unemployed youths at a function at Ambedkar ground here. Over fifty thousand candidates are from Lucknow division alone.

As many as 8.80 lakh persons have been registered at the various employments exchanges in the state, out of which only 1.14 lakh have so far been found eligible to receive unemployment allowance, according to an official spokesman.

The CM had made the announcement to this effect in the state assembly during budget session on February 15. The eligible recepients for the allowance should be at least a graduate with the maximum age of 35 years.

Uttar Pradesh, the largest state in the country, will have the distinction of giving maximum monthly allowance of Rs 500. In Haryana, the monthly unemployment allowance is Rs 350, according to officials here.

The state government has already made an allocation of Rs 400 crore for distribution of money under one of the most ambitious schemes of Mulayam Singh Yadav-led government in the state.
