Two booked for hunting a barking deer
Hardwar, June 15 (UNI) Two persons were arrested for allegedly hunting a barking deer, which is an endangered species of wild life protected under schedule 3 of the Wild Life Act, 1972, on the outskirt of the Rajaji National Park.
Forest department sources said that on a tip off from an informer, a team of the forest personnel, led by the deputy director of the park, Bharat Singh and comprising Hardwar range conservator, Vikram Singh Tomar, Gauhari range's Brijesh Uniyal, forest inspector Ashok Singh Rawat and forest guards Narendra Bisht, Ramnath and Vinod Shukla, raided Magda village and caught Ramchandra Kukreti and his son Virendra red handed, while they were cooking the meat of the poached animal. The forest team recovered the head of the deer, a licensed gun&eight live cartridges from the spot, the sources said.
Mr Bharat Singh told UNI that the two poachers, after being produced in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate here last evening, were sent to jail by the court under sections 9, 39 and 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act.
