Ten booked under PITA; 25 CSWs sent to welfare
Mumbai, June 15 (UNI) The Social Service Branch (SSB) of Mumbai police have arrested 35 people, including 25 Commercial Sex Workers (CSW), seven of them minor girls, from Marwadi Chawl in southcentral Mumbai.
Among the 35 persons, arrested yesterday, six were brothelkeeper and four were pimps.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Apranti told reporters here today that acting on a tip-off, the SSB team raided a brothel operational at Marwadi chawl, Hanuman Galli in the South Central Mumbai at 1945 hrs yesterday and arrested 35 people including 25 CSWs.
All the arrested were produced before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S Y Shisode this afternoon who remanded four pimps and six brothelkeeper to police custody till June 29. While CSWs were sent to a welfare home at Chembur.
Mr Shisode has also directed police to conduct medical examination of all 25 CSWs before sending them to Navjivan welfare home at Chembur. He further said after the medical examination, the minor girls should be sent to Children welfare home at Govandi and the CSWs should be kept in Navjivan welfare home.
All ten persons were booked under PITA (Prevention of Immoral Trifficking Act).
