TDP complains against use of guest houses for election purposes
Hyderabad, Jun 15 (UNI) The opposition TDP today complained to Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner A V S Reddy that Union Minister of State for Defence Pallamraju and State Animal Husbandry Minister G Surya Rao were using guest houses for the two phase Panchayat polls beginning on June 28.
A delegation of TDP leaders led by Former Minister K Vijayarama Raju called on Mr Reddy and demanded action against them and the ruling Congress legislators M Gopalakrishna and G Chittabbai.
Despite the SEC's instruction, voters lists rectified and attested by the authorities concerned had not been made available to the TDP in most of the districts, they alleged and urged him to ensure follow-up action on matters relating to alleged violation of code of conduct by the Congress party leaders and officials.
Meanwhile, SEC Secretary G N Rao clarified at a press conference here that rest houses and other Government accommodation could not be allowed to be used for election propoaganda even if the guest house was in a municipal area in the district.
''If a minister undertakes a tour of any area of a district where elections are taking place such tour shall be deemed to be an election tour and no government servant except security personnel shall accompany the minister, he said.
From this, it can be inferred that the Model Code of Conduct applies to the entire district, including Municipalities and Municipal Corporations where Panchayat Raj elections are taking place''.
