STOCKHOLM, June 15 (Reuters) A Swedish man gripped by World Cup fever painted his whole house in the blue and yellow colours of the national flag while his wife was at work.

''I knew she would say no, so there was no point in asking her about it,'' Janne Petterson said today.

''It was really fun to see her face when she got home.'' He decided to paint the two-storey building, in a suburb of Stockholm, as a tribute to the Swedish team and win a newspaper competition for tickets to the World Cup final.

Sweden faces Paraguay today in its second game in the tournament's Group B and is in dire need of a win if it is to advance to the second round after playing a goalless draw with Trinidad&Tobago in its opening game.

Pettersson said his wife has told him he can keep the house emblazoned with Sweden's national colours as long as the national side stays in the tournament.

He said he was expecting a draw against Paraguay.
