Mumbai, June 15: Prakash Mahajan, the younger brother of late senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pramod Mahajan, was today appointed the chief organiser of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), the political party launched by Raj Thackeray who is the nephew of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray.

Announcing this, at MIG Club in subarban Bandra in the afternoon, a stone's throw away from Mr Thackeray's residence, Raj said: ''Prakash met me in January. After talking to him, I realised that he has the potential.'' Asked whether Mr Mahajan was included to carry on the legacy of Pramod, he replied negatively.

Incidentally, late Mahajan was the BJP general secretary. After his death, there were rumours that his wife Rekha or his son Rahul would join politics. However, Rahul was involved in a 'drug controversy'. Finally, Pramod's younger brother Prakash entered the political arena as the organising secretary of the MNS.

Late Mahajan was shot at his youngest brother Pravin on April 22 at his residence and succumbed to injuries on May 3.
