'Peace in South Asia resulted in economic progress'

Islamabad, June 15: Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz today linked ''economic progress'' in India and Pakistan with establishment of a lasting peace in South Asia.

Addressing a seminar on '' Muslim-Sikh Relations in Historical Perspective'' organised by Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee in connection with the 400th death anniversary of Guru Arjan Dev Jee, in Lahore, Mr Aziz said Pakistan and India were important countries in the region where peace must prevail.

''We believe in solving all the disputes through parleys, including the core issue of Kashmir with India,'' he was quoted as saying by the official Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).

He added both the countries cannot progress in any sphere in the absence of peace.

The Prime Minister said Islamabad and New Delhi are working out strategies to address all issues through mutual understanding.

''Promotion of inter-faith harmony, love, moderation and bonds of brotherhood are vital for durable peace in the world,'' he said, adding that global peace was a pre-requisite for progress.

''Unity is need of the hour for all irrespective of their schools of thought which is an essential for pursuit of peace, he added.

Mr Aziz said teachings of Baba Guru Nanak were based on love, peace, harmony and sound character which must be practised for betterment of people.

''We all should live together irrespective of religions in a peaceful atmosphere which is the corner stone of the teachings of Guru Nanak, he added.

The Prime Minister assured the visiting Sikh Yatrees of provision of best facilities during their stay in Pakistan. He said they can come to Pakistan anytime to visit their holy places and will be issued multiple visas.
