NSCNs ceasefire in Sumi inhabited areas

Kohima, Jun 15 (UNI) In what is seen as a milestone towards bringing the warring NSCN factions together, both the rival factions of NSCN have signed an agreement of ceasefire in the Sumi dominated areas of Nagaland to ensure greater peace in the state.

The historic declaration was made yesterday following meeting initiated by the Sumi Hoho at Zunheboto town. The resolution declared that Sumi Hoho, the apex body of the Sumi tribe, will expedite peace process between the factions and that hence forth there will be no clashes in Sumi areas. Whichever faction starts conflicts either by violence or intimidation in the Sumi area will be expelled from Sumi land and the Sumis will withdraw support to that particular faction.

Both the sides agreed with the declaration and resolved to adhere to the declaration, which is for the first time in the state and a positive sign towards the unity among all groups of Naga people.

While, the NSCN-IM side was represented by Kilonser Shikato Chishi Swu, younger brother of NSCN-IM Chairman Isak Chishi Swu, other leaders, including Tatars (MP), the NSCN (K) was represented by Brig. Niki Sumi, Commander of its army in the area, Col. Aheto and its military spokesman Isak Sumi.
