LIC's Ernakulam division among top 3 in the country

Kochi, June 15 (UNI) The Life Insurance Corporation's Ernakulam division figures among the top three divisions in the country and leads the 12 south zone divisions with a first premium income of Rs 377.89 crore.

Talking to reporters here today, LIC, Ernakulam senior division manager J Anil Kumar said the Ernakulam division also topped in the number of new polices -- 4,91,290 -- a growth rate of 52.36 per cent, and the sum insured, among the 12 south zone divisions, as on March, 2006.

The major contribution of 59.73 per cent in the premium account came from the Unit Linked Plan, Future Plus with Rs 225.73 crore, he said.

The business target for Ernakulam Division for the current year was 5,64,000 policies and Rs 510 crore of First Premium Income, he said.

Mr Anil Kumar said their aim was to do Rs 1000 crore of First premium for the current year and to make LIC's presence felt in the emerging competitive scenario.

The total income of the Division as on March 31, 2006 was Rs 1193.71 crore with a premium collection of Rs 1157.19 crore and the total surplus generated was Rs 592.14 crore.
