Jishnu enters U-19 semis, Abhimanyu upset in U-16 semis

Chennai, June 15 (UNI) Top-seed Jishnu Sanyal stormed into the last four stage in the Boys Under-19 singles event but in the Under-16 semifinals, top seed Abhimanyu Singh of Madhya Pradesh was upset by fourth seed Aditya Prakash of Karnataka 21-12, 21-19 in the Krishna Khaitan memorial junior badminton championships here today.

The Maharashtra boy had little difficulty in wearing out Srujan Nandaluri of Andhra Pradesh 21-9, 21-10.

However, there was another upset in the girls Under-19 singles semis when the second seeded Gayatri Vartax of Maharashtra went down to third seeded G M Nichita in a match that went the full distance.

Nichita won 21-17,18-21, 21-14.

Saurav Verma Ratikant Saha and Arun Nandaluri joined Jishnu in the Under-19 semi finals. Ratikant was the only player who was stretched to three games in the quarters. He won a close duel against Andhra Pradesh's Vinaykumar 21-16, 21-17, 22-21.

G M Nichita of Karnataka will face Neha Pandit of Maharashtra in the girls Under-19 final. Neha Pandit who struck good form had it relatively easy against Anitha of Railways to win 21-19, 21-11.
