High Court issues notice to Haryana govt in telecom case
Chandigarh, June 15 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High court today issued notices to the Haryana government, state police chief and district police chief Navdeep Singh Virk, Kaithal, on a petition filed by Karnal-based Messers Aircel Digilink India Ltd, a subsidiary of Hutch telecom.
The petitioners have alleged that cases have been registered against the Karnal-based company at various places in Haryana for issuing several connections to one individual.
The petition, which came up for hearing before the division bench comprising Justices K S Garewal and Rajesh Bindal, has prayed for an independent probe into the cases launched against the petitioners, besides directions to quash the FIRs registered.
The counsel for the company argued that under the law, only the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) which granted licences or the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), were competent to launch any such proceedings. The petitioners, Company's Vice Chairman Sandeep Kathuria and General Manager Raman Kumar have also sought directions to restrain the respondents from registering cases against them.
Other respondents include the district police chiefs of Panipat, Bhiwani, Rewari, Gurgaon and Sirsa, the places where FIRs against the company have been registered.
