Guj HC issues notices to Guj Govt for nonpayment of wages

Ahmedabad, June 15 (UNI) The Gujarat High Court today issued notices to the state government for not paying proper wages to the workers employed under the scheme of National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 (NREGA).

A single judge bench of Justice H K Rathod in his judgement has directed the Department of Rural Development Authority (DRDA) to ensure that the workers working under the NREGA schemes in Sabarkantha district in Gujarat get wages as per the norms.

The order came on a petition filed by Ms Mashurben Macwana of Balisana village of Prantij Taluka of Sabarkantha district.

The court also ordered the DRDA to inquire how many more workers working under the schemes did not get proper wages as per the norms of the NREGA.

Ms Macwana and hundred others decided to move to the Court when they did not receive proper wages for 19 days and no proper response from local authorities for their appeals and complaints.

The Gujarat Government has to answer the notice by June 30.
