Dy Health officer suspended for involvement in medicine scam

New Delhi, June 15 (UNI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi today suspended deputy health officer D P Kanojia in connection with a scam for sale and purchase of medicines in the ayurvedic medicines' dispensary at the MCD headquarters.

The order to suspend Mr Kanojia was taken by MCD Commissioner A K Nigam considering the seriousness of the charges against him.

Giving this information in a meeting of the MCD's Standing Committee here, Chairman of the Committee Jai Kishen Sharma said CBI had already carried out a probe into Kanojia's involvement in some other scams.

Ordering a detailed inquiry in the issue, Mr Sharma said any corruption in the working of the Corporation would not be tolerated.

The scam had recently come to light and inquiry was being conducted by concerned officers in the MCD's vigilance department.

The probe by the Vigilance Department had revealed several irregularities in sale and purchase of medicines in the dispensary wherein the purchase of Rs 15000 worth of medicines daily was being done from four shops situated in Chandni Chowk. Further, a pharmacist, who complained about these irregularities, was removed by the said officer.
