Couple axed to death in Aurangabad

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, June 15 (UNI) A farmer and his wife were axed to death by unidentified assailants in Khultabad tehsil of this district late last night, police said here today.

They said the assailants had attacked them in their head and neck' when the couple was asleep in front of their house at Khirdi village during 2300 and 0630 hrs.

However, a five-year-old grandson of the victims, who was sleeping at their bedside, alerted others soon after he got up in the morning.

The victims were identified as Damu Dhondu Matkar (50) and his wife Shashikala Dhondu Matkar (45), the police said.

Khultabad police have registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC against the unknown assailants and further investigations are on, they added.
