BA to fly bigger aircraft for football World Cup
Mumbai, June 15 (UNI) To celebrate the World Cup 6, British Airways has decided to press into service larger aircraft on at least 30 flights before and after England's big games.
A BA release here today said that it would be flying approximately 500,000 people to and from Germany during the tournament and will be operating 130 flights to and from Germany every single day.
In keeping with the celebratory mood, the England World Cup party reportedly drank 56 cups of tea during their flight to Germany this week. The 110 foot wingspan of the A320 ''Pride of the Nation'', which flew the England team to Germany this week, is the same length as David Beckham's famous free kick against Greece at Old Trafford which helped England to qualify for the 2002 World Cup, the release said.
An interesting factoid is that the BA flew 10,568 miles back from Australia with the all-conquering England rugby team after the World Cup in 2003.
The BA flies to 25 of the 32 countries taking part in the World Cup. The airline's new home at Terminal 5 reflects its enthusiasm for the ongoing World Cup and its size is that of 50 World Cup football pitches.
